Based on recent Lands of America data, Georgia ranks second in the country for the combined number of land listings currently for sale in the state. By overall acreage of land for sale, Georgia ranks 10th. Internal data from Lands of America shows about $15 billion in land and rural property for sale in Georgia, which comprises a total of 699,277 acres of land for sale in Georgia. Of Georgia's 159 counties, Gilmer County had the most rural property and land for sale. There were 7,621 acres of sold land in Georgia recorded in January through the Lands of America sales program. This reflects a 20 percent change in sales activity over the month before, with a combined land value of $21 million for all property and land sold in the state. Emanuel and Jefferson County had the most land sales recently in the state. Georgia covers a diverse landscape that rolls from the Appalachian Mountains in its northwest corner to the barrier islands and beaches along its Atlantic coastline. The state is home to over 100 wildlife management areas that offer over one million acres of hunting lands, where hunters can bag deer, duck, quail, and more. Fishing is also popular in the state, with 4,000 miles of trout streams and some 12,000 miles of other streams packed with bass, catfish, bluegill, and bream. In terms of its size, Georgia is the country's 24th-largest state, covering an area of 59,441 square miles (38 million acres). Of its total landmass, 57,513 square miles is land, while the remaining 1,912 square miles is made up of water.
