History:
The Berkley Quarry is a longstanding, well-known dimensional stone quarry which began operations in the early 1900s. Manual operation carved blocks of granite that were transported to finishing operations in nearby Elberton, GA. The Berkley Blue blocks were split and polished for monuments and building stone for many public and private buildings. The light grey close grain of the stone was popular with architects worldwide. Many historical buildings used Berkley stone for the exterior.
